Depot Market Square Bellingham, Washingtion
The Depot Market Square was built on the site of the historic 1892 Railroad Depot built by the Bellingham Bay and British Columbia Railroad. The Depot Market Square honors our community’s history by emulating the form and shape of the original buildings and platforms. The new structure includes steel trusses that were recycled from the old Skagit River bridge. The new Depot Market Square is a public space for community gatherings and home of the Bellingham Farmers Market. The pavilion building may be used for a wide variety of activities when the market is not in operation. The Depot Market Square provides a sustainable landmark for the community. The "green square" is the storm water collector for the project with a permeable basin in the center that collects and filters water before discharging into the city’s storm system. The rain garden in the south courtyard collects storm water from the adjacent elevated parking areas and filters the run-off prior to discharge.
